The contest

Mailleur Ouvrier de FranceJean-Michel Cayron win the XXIII contest « One of the Best Crafstman of France».
Group XIV – Professions : technicals of accuracy
Class 1 : Cutlery
And option # 2 : manufacturing of hunting knives.

Remarks :
No industrial made or stamp made. 3 pieces to manufacture with one or the other method : hand-stock removal or hand-forging.

2 pieces was laid down :

  • An unfolding knife (fixed blade) with a hill and total lenght of 230 mm
  • A folding knife with lock blades for each piece. Closed size : 150 mm Width size 30 mm and high of 40 mm with 4 pieces : blade, saw blade, gutting blade and corkscrew.

The last piece is to be a folding knife. Free.

Hill : white maillechort with each side rose maillechort
Handle in stabilized girafo bone
Pommel : white maillechort with rose maillechort

2 stainless steel bolsters
Handle in stabilized girafo bone
Lock blades with 3 independent locks : a central lock for the main blade and inside the corkscrew and 2 lateral locks for the saw blade and the gutting blade

  • Stainless steel blade Z100 CDMN 14-4 (ATS 34). Hardness : 61 HRC
  • Stainless steel saw Z70CD 16 with 42 triangular and zig-zag teeth Hardness : 56-58 HRC
  • Stainless steel gutting blade Z100 CDMN 14-4 (ATS 34) with curved grinding. Hardness : 61 HRC
  • Stainless steel corkscrew Z20C13 in gimlet pattern and dextrogyre with 4 curved. Hardness : 51-53 HRC
  • Stainless steel locks Z40C14. Hardness : 54-56 HRC
  • Stainless steel springs Z20C13. Hardness : 51-53 HRC

The pattern is a reference of a old model.
And chisellings, mechanical system, aesthetics options are a reference of our cultural and technical heritage.
The only modern think is the use of our modern stainless steel.

Handle in elephant ivory (we have the agreement to use old elephant ivory-CITES)
Sculpted front bolster in white maillechort
Locks (Z40C14), bolsters, springs (Z20C13) and ricasso blades are engraved with floral pattern
Made with 3 plates
Lock blades with 2 independant locks like « lentille forgée » on the same lenght Stainless steel blades Z100CDMN 14-4 (ATS34) on the same axis:

  • one classic blade pattern simple curved grinding
  • une lame « d’estoc » double tranchant émouture en creux avec un faux tranchant
